Get up and running with your Ledger hardware wallet the right way: set up, secure, and manage your crypto safely.

Onboarding Steps

Step 1 – Confirm purchase & authenticity

Ensure you obtained your device from the official Ledger store or an authorised reseller. Counterfeit devices pose serious risks.

Step 2 – Download the official app

Visit ledger.com/start to download the official setup guide and latest version of Ledger Live.

Step 3 – Initialise your wallet device

Follow the prompt to “Set up as new device” or restore from a recovery phrase. Create a PIN and keep it private.

Step 4 – Secure your recovery phrase

Write down the 24-word recovery phrase on paper or a metal backup. Do **not** store it digitally, photograph it, or share it.

Step 5 – Install apps and add accounts

Use Ledger Live to install only the apps you need — e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum — and add accounts. Always verify transactions on your device’s screen.

Verify downloads or firmware updates if checksums/signatures are provided.
Never disclose your recovery phrase to anyone — no customer service, no chat, no website.
Keep firmware updated and only accept updates via Ledger Live.
Use a trusted device/environment for initial setup and consider extra physical protections (metal backup, safe deposit box).

Reminder: If you are asked for your recovery phrase by anyone claiming to be Ledger support, it's a scam — stop immediately.
